Marilyn Margolis, CEO of Emory Johns Creek Hospital, saw Shen Yun for the first time at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 14, and bought tickets for her team to enjoy the performance together.
“Congratulations, this is such a wonderful show. And I’m so honored that I got to see it. And I’m really experienced what’s going on in this show and, and obviously in China, and making sure that we do the best we can do from henceforward.”
“I think the dancers are so talented, and they’re so flexible,” added Margolis. “The music and then the backdrop is so wonderful too. I really have loved to see, the scenery has been great. The music’s been great. The dancing has been phenomenal. It’s just been a wonderful experience.”
Story-based dances are one way that Shen Yun portrays traditional culture. They are inspired by legends, literature, and current issues in modern China like human rights abuses.
Margolis applauded Shen Yun’s mission and bold efforts to present a side of China that is not commonly discussed in our modern world.
“I’ve gotten very enlightened by the moderators, telling us the commentary about what’s going on in China, and we’ve heard before. We’re really trying to raise awareness of that in Cumming and I think this is a very good start for us,” she said.
“I think it’s a phenomenal mission,” she added. “I think we should do everything we can to make freedom across the lands.”
She could see the dancers’ spirit and their desire to “make it better in China” through their dance and music.
“They’re really dancing for a cause. And you can tell their spirit is so full of wanting to do the right thing. And I think that comes out very clearly in the dancing and the camaraderie in the team also,” said Margolis. “[Shen Yun’s cause is] to really make it better in China through things that we can do here in the United States to support these efforts, and to make sure that we have a really good understanding of what’s fair, and what should be practiced all across the nations, all nations, not just the United States but every nation.”
