Shen Yun 2022 has been performing all over the United States and Europe, attracting audiences from all walks of life.
Audience members said they were captivated by the production.
“I’m speechless. It’s wonderful,” said D. Bates, a textile designer who saw the show in Colorado Springs.
“You’ll be inspired, unforgettable,” said Dean Zachary, a professional comic artist who has worked on many characters from Batman, Wonder Woman, and Star Wars, after seeing Shen Yun in Memphis, Tennessee.
“Off the chart, I can’t even expand it was so out of this world. And so out of what I would imagine even the capacity of a human body can do,” said Mistia Fallon, executive director of Dragonfly Aerial Company.
“It was fascinating. It was beautiful. The dancing is phenomenal, the choreography. I just loved it,” said John Passarelli, a lawyer who saw Shen Yun in Omaha, Nebraska.
In Spain, audience members have been waiting for four years to see the show. Manuel Jesús Acosta Elías, who is a member of Parliament of Catalonia, Spain, saw Shen Yun’s first performance on Jan. 30 in Sant Cugat, Spain.
“I’m at a loss for words to describe how I really feel right now because the show was extraordinary!” he said.
“I think this show is spectacular—spectacular on the musical level, on the dance level, it was super complete. Incredible,” said soprano Marta Sans Viñuales.
“On stage, it was like you could feel the vibrations come to you … I don’t know how to explain it,” said mezzo-soprano María José Viñuales. “The dance, the costumes, the silks, it was marvelous. For a moment, it is as if you are transported.”
For thousands of years, traditional art forms such as music and dance were integrated into Chinese life, expressing benevolence, beauty, and many other virtues.
“All the performances come down to kindness, beauty, and goodness. Unfortunately, these sacred values are not so common in today’s society. So the show was like a breath of fresh air,” said Acosta Elías.
“I thought the show encapsulated the traditions, beauty, art of ancient China and celebrated compassion, faith, forgiveness. And it was the most memorable experience I’ve had in a live performance,” said Zachary.
“This performance reconnected me to the energy within all of us and the diversity, the true diversity in all of us, which is the divine, the love and the compassion that connects us all. And that’s more than enough reason for everyone to see the show.”
Unfortunately, these ancient traditions and values are lost in today’s China.
Since 2006, Shen Yun has traveled around the world with one goal: to revive the traditional Chinese culture from before communism.
These values are showcased through dance and music.
“I know what China is today. And I long for what China could be tomorrow,” said Tony Colon, a company owner. “I think, from the American side, is to understand more of what the Chinese people are, and not what their government does. So more of these performances would enlighten us as to the history of the Chinese people, and how gentle and friendly and family-like they are. It’s a culture that we should strive to be.”
“It’s a call for attention to this world that is unfortunately built on hedonism and materialism. We saw how the truth, the goodness, the beauty can degenerate in hatred, in tyranny—like Chinese communism, which is not the essence of Chinese civilization, right. Indeed the show is very recommendable and very timely,” said Acosta Elías.
“You have made our day, our year. It was such a blessing and a privilege to get to witness your art and where you’ve taken it. And the level at which you perform has been incredibly inspirational to both of us. So thank you so much,” said Fallon.
