Shen Yun Performing Arts traveled to Nantes this week—bringing audiences in France on a journey through ancient China. The company just completed 5 shows in the French city of Bordeaux.
Blandine Gaignon, an artist, said, “It’s a very, very good level. The dancers are amazing, the way they make sounds, it’s extraordinary. You can tell they’re really great dancers, great artists.”
Vincent Maisonneuve, the principal of Marcel Callo High School, said, “I’m really pleasantly surprised, having seen a number of different performances. It’s at a very professional level, with a very high level of artistic accuracy. Congratulations to the choreographer and all the artists.”
“When the soprano sang, she said that there was a need for the divine and that humankind is moving away from it,” said Marie-Caroline Seydoux, a former cartographer. “You see this harmony, you see this balance, and you get the impression that the dancers are carried by this force and that helps them a lot.”
Other theatergoers pointed to the uniqueness of the experience.
Ms. Gaignon said, “I thought it was magnificent. I found it very beautiful. The end is very beautiful, very, very beautiful. At times, I almost had tears in my eyes. It was so beautiful.”
Ms. Seydoux said, “When I came out, I was no longer in my own country. I felt like I’d traveled and was there, between heaven and Earth. And it’s a beautiful experience.”
“A moment of escape, truly superb choreography,” said Mr. Maisonneuve. “A very, very beautiful ensemble.”
Shen Yun will perform in Nantes until Feb. 18.
