Authorities in South Carolina are looking for a man who went missing on Aug. 16 and is considered endangered.
The man, 60-year-old Stanley Kotowski from Massachusetts, was on vacation with his family in South Carolina. He was last seen in the morning of Aug. 16, when he left his family’s vacation rental in the South Sea Pines Drive area.
“He was last seen wearing a dark in color, possibly gray, Coors Light t-shirt, dark in color shorts, possibly dark blue or black, and no shoes,” according to a social media post by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
Kotowski did not take any personal items with him such as wallet or phone and is believed to be barefoot, authorities said.
Kotowski has short brown hair and brown eyes. He is approximately six feet tall and weighs around 200 pounds.
The search for Kotowski remains ongoing, and search efforts between BCSO and other agencies included K9s, helicopters, drones, boats, and foot patrol.
BCSO said in the post that the southern Beaufort County areas may see increased law enforcement, including searches in residential and wooded areas, and has asked the public not to be alarmed by such activity nor interfere with law enforcement efforts.
Kotowski’s family expressed concerns about about his mental state at the time of his disappearance, stating that he may have possibly been paranoid, Master Sergeant Daniel Allen told NTD in an email.
According to BCSO, no new information on Kotowski’s whereabouts have yet come to light despite multiple leads having been given to authorities.
“We have been checking with every lead or tip that has come in, but unfortunately nothing has lead to us locating him. The search does continue for him and several resources are being used to attempt to find him,” Allen went on to say in the email.
“The US Coast Guard is scheduled to fly a helicopter around the area of Hilton Head today and the SC Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is scheduled to have boats out in the water ways today to help with the search. So the search does continue in multiple ways.”
The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to all citizens who have assisted the search through tips and information. Kotowski’s details have been entered into national databases, and BCSO has notified agencies across the state.
The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with cameras to check if Kotowski appeared in any images. Any related information on the case can be submitted via BCSO’s non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777.
