Search efforts have halted for a 66-year-old woman who reportedly fell overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship near the Bahamas on Tuesday night, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Multiple international agencies, including the Coast Guard and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, have been involved in the search.
The passenger fell from the Allure of the Seas cruise ship at around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, about 17 miles north of Nassau, Bahamas, a Coast Guard spokesperson told NTD News in a statement.
In a post on X, Wednesday afternoon, the Coast Guard said the search had been suspended “pending further developments.”
In an email, spokesperson Eric Rodriquez confirmed the decision.
“The Coast Guard was informed by the Royal Bahamian Defense Force this afternoon that they have suspended the search for the missing 66-year-old woman pending any further developments,” he said.
He said the Coast Guard used an HC-144 airplane and MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter from the Air Station Miami to assist with the search.
A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean told NTD News the company is providing assistance to the passenger’s family but couldn’t say more for privacy reasons.
The spokesperson said the cruise ship’s crew had immediately launched a search and rescue effort after the woman fell overboard and was working with local authorities on the matter.
4-Night Cruise
The Allure of the Seas embarked on its journey from Port Miami on Monday for a four-night cruise. It was scheduled to make stops in Nassau and Coco Cay before returning to Miami on Friday.
This particular trip stands out as nearly 200 staterooms were booked for a special Taylor Swift-themed cruise, following the singer’s “Eras Tour” concerts at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens last weekend, according to the Royal Caribbean Blog.
The missing woman’s identity has not been disclosed, and it remains uncertain if she was part of the Taylor Swift fan group on board.
