The 9th International Chinese Vocal Competition is coming to New York City this September. It is one in a series of competitions hosted by NTD to promote traditional culture and arts, as well as “pure truth, goodness, and beauty.”
“NTD has set up this platform to give Chinese vocalists from all over the world an opportunity to showcase their talents,” said Lucy Zhou, director of NTD Competitions.
The competition will be divided into male and female vocal groups. Singers will have a chance to win gold, silver, or bronze prizes, as well as a number of awards for outstanding performances in each group.
“To be eligible, singers must be between the ages of 18 and 50. The majority of the contestants are Chinese, but mixed race is also acceptable. You are eligible if you are at least one-fourth Chinese,” Zhou said.
The contestants are required to sing a Chinese song after entering the final round, and a special feature of the contest is to sing a Chinese song in a Western style.
“This is a unique platform for Chinese vocalists,” Zhou added.
Singers from Shen Yun Performing Arts have been invited to be the judges for this year’s competition.
The semi-finals and finals will be held from Sept. 18 to 21, and will be livestreamed from the Kaufman Music Center in New York City.
