The prime minister said it will take time to reap the benefits of clean power initiatives, but continued to back the promise energy bills will be cut by 300 pounds ($386). He said GB energy is intended as a catalyst for investment. But the Tories say Labour’s decarbonisation by 2030 plans will mean huge bills for families.

A Hong Kong court dismissed a bid by jailed publisher Jimmy Lai to end his trial. Mr. Lai, a British citizen, founded Apple Daily, a pro-democracy newspaper. It was shut down by authorities after Beijing imposed a national security law on Hong Kong.

U.S. President Joe Biden gave his first address since announcing his decision to leave the presidential race. He said he put aside personal ambition to pass the torch onto a new generation.
