Arsonists attacked the French high-speed rail network in the early hours of July 26, paralyzing travel to Paris from across the rest of France and Europe for some 800,000 people—including Olympic athletes heading to the grand opening ceremony of the Games on Friday evening. French officials condemned the attacks as “criminal actions,” though they said there was no sign of a direct link to the Games.
Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign received a substantial boost as former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama announced their endorsement of her bid for the White House. The endorsement came in the form of a video shared by Ms. Harris in which she accepted a joint phone call from the Obamas. The vice president is seeking to build momentum as the Democratic Party’s likely nominee after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the campaign.
A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of pushing a burning car 60 feet into a California gully, spreading flames that caused what’s now become the state’s largest wildfire of the year, authorities said. The Park Fire in Butte County has quickly burned an area larger than the city of Atlanta.
