Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention kicked off in Chicago’s United Center on Monday, with a focus on President Joe Biden’s legacy. Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters are gathering for a rally and march close to the convention center where Vice President Kamala Harris will officially accept the party’s nomination for president.
The Biden administration has launched the “Keeping Families Together” program, which grants a path to citizenship to spouses of U.S. citizens who have lived in the United States for at least 10 years. Some 500,000 spouses, along with some 50,000 children under 21, are expected to qualify.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken is visiting Israel as part of his ninth trip to the Middle East since the Israel–Hamas war began. He met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and said that the time has come to conclude a cease-fire agreement for Gaza.
