Hurricane Helene slammed into northwestern Florida Thursday evening as Category 4 with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. More than 2.2 million homes and businesses were without power in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. Helene weakened to a Category 1 as it moved across Georgia overnight.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams will make his initial court appearance today in lower Manhattan. U.S. Attorney Damian Williams announced a five-count indictment against Adams, who says he’s innocent. Williams accuses Adams of involvement in a multi-year scheme to commit fraud in exchange for money and property.

The Israeli army says it intercepted another missile fired from Yemen by the terrorist group Hezbollah Friday. Sirens and explosions were heard in central Israel early Friday morning. The IDF says Hezbollah used a surface-to-surface missile in the attack. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will speak at the UN General Assembly on Friday. On Thursday, he said Israel will keep hitting Hezbollah with full force when asked about a U.S.-led ceasefire plan.
