World leaders are reacting to the death of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas terrorist leader and chief architect of the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel that sparked the war in Gaza. Israel has described his death as a turning point in its campaign against Hamas and urged the group to release the remaining hostages. World leaders expressed their hope the development would create an opportunity for a cease-fire in the conflict. In Lebanon, meanwhile, the Hezbollah terrorist group has vowed to escalate its war with Israel in response to Sinwar’s death.

A federal judge in Washington has rejected former President Donald Trump’s request to pause the release of documents related to his Jan. 6 case. Trump’s attorneys argued on Thursday that releasing the documents could be perceived as election interference. However, Judge Tanya Chutkan stated that withholding them could also potentially interfere with the election. The documents from the Department of Justice are expected to include redactions and are due to be released on Friday.

An independent panel of former law enforcement officials has criticized the Secret Service for its handling of security at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas appointed the panel to review the agency’s role in the security failures leading up to the assassination attempt on Trump. The panel says the Secret Service had become more complacent and static despite increasing risks.
