Today the nation commemorated the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks that killed almost 3,000 people. The somber anniversary came amid a heated election campaign season. President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Donald Trump attended a memorial service at Ground Zero in New York City. The two presidential candidates appeared to put their differences aside, shaking hands for the second time in less than 12 hours after their first debate.

Both Trump and Harris claimed victory following Tuesday night’s debate. Harris called for a second debate, while Trump said the host network, ABC News, was biased against him, casting doubt on further face-offs.

Hurricane Francine barreled toward Louisiana Wednesday as forecasters warned of potentially deadly storm surges, widespread flooding, and destructive winds. The hurricane disrupted 40 percent of oil and almost half of natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico.

Authorities in Southern California have arrested a man accused of starting the Line Fire, which has grown to over 34,000 acres and is only 14 percent contained. Fire crews are also battling two other massive blazes in the Los Angeles area.
