President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will face off in the first presidential debate tonight at 9 p.m. eastern time. They will be in Atlanta for the 90-minute event.
The Supreme Court Thursday put the Environmental Protection Agency’s “good neighbor” plan on hold while legal challenges continue. The air pollution regulation was aimed at reducing ozone emissions from upwind states. Three Republican-led states and the steel and fossil-fuel industries brought the lawsuit.
The Supreme Court blocked Purdue Pharma’s bankruptcy settlement, which would have shielded the Sackler family from lawsuits over their alleged role in the opioid epidemic. The Biden administration challenged the settlement, arguing it abused bankruptcy protections.
The Supreme Court also decided that hospitals in Idaho can, for now, perform abortions in medical emergencies. The ruling came after the Biden administration sued Idaho’s near-total abortion ban under the emergency medical treatment and labor act.
The Pentagon announced it’s investigating the effectiveness of the pier built by the U.S. military off the coast of Gaza. The pier has faced weather and security challenges since it was built in May, and has had to be re-anchored twice due to heavy seas.
