The Senate Armed Services Committee held a confirmation hearing for President Trump’s pick for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. Senators questioned him about allegations of misconduct and his views on women in combat roles.

President-elect Trump announced plans to create a new agency, called the External Revenue Service, to collect tariffs and other revenues from foreign nations. Meanwhile, the Justice Department released Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report on Trump, which concluded that Trump engaged in “criminal efforts” to overturn the 2020 election results.

California officials warned that new wildfires are still possible within the next 24 hours due to dry winds and conditions. An additional 84,000 people could be ordered to evacuate, and more than 85,000 are still without power.

The Hamas terrorist group accepted a draft agreement for a cease-fire and hostage release deal in the Gaza war. The deal still requires approval from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet. It would begin with the release of 33 hostages over a six-week period.

Russia claimed that Ukraine fired U.S. ballistic missiles and UK cruise missiles at Russian regions and launched one of the largest drone attacks to date. Russia’s military stated it would retaliate.
