The West and Russia completed their biggest prisoner swap since the end of the Cold War, releasing 26 individuals from seven countries. Russia released three U.S. citizens, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former Marine Paul Whelan.
The Israeli military said the head of Hamas’s military wing, Mohammed Deif, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza on July 13. Deif is believed to be one of the masterminds of Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel.
Venezuela’s socialist leader Nicolás Maduro asked the United States to restart talks and lift oil sanctions. The request was made at the same time the United States is scrutinizing Venezuela’s presidential election and waiting for Maduro to release the tabulated results.
