Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) held a press conference at the U.S. Capitol on Monday to sound the alarm on the WHO’s so-called Pandemic Treaty. A wide range of experts at the press conference spoke on the major concerns they harbor with regard to the treaty—including WHO overreach and the treaty’s infringements on U.S. sovereignty, as well as a host of other issues.

Announced in March of 2021, the treaty aims to enhance international cooperation in order to improve preparedness for the next potential pandemic. But Mr. Smith said that far too little scrutiny has been given to the agreement.

The treaty, which will be legally binding, promises a “sustainable funding mechanism” that will rely on annual monetary contributions to the WHO.

It’s unclear, Mr. Smith said, whether the Biden administration intends to submit the treaty agreement to the Senate for approval.
