While NBA superstar Stephen Curry gave the performance of a lifetime against France over the weekend, which secured a gold medal for the United States, it may have left a sour aftertaste for the French.
As a result of Curry’s gold medal performance, McDonald’s in France jokingly posted on social media that it’s now considering removing one of its sauces from its menu. The sauce, of course, is its classic curry sauce.
Albeit unavailable in the U.S. franchise, the sauce is a popular condiment on the continent, specifically in France.
“For obvious reasons, we are considering removing this sauce,” McDonald’s France posted on Instagram, a translation of the post read, with a caption that read: “For 4 years minimum.”
Indeed, Curry’s 24-point performance did give the French competition much reason for sorrow, especially after the deciding four 3-pointers in the final moments of the game sealed the deal for the United States gold medal.
“This ranks very very high in terms of the excitement and the sense of relief,” the NBA posted on its official page on social media platform X.
Curry scored his final 3-pointer with just 33 seconds left on the clock, putting the United States up by nine points 98-87, which marked the second consecutive gold medal face-off between the United States and France during the summer games.
“The shot-making was just incredible. But under the circumstances, on the road, in Paris, against France for a gold medal, this is storybook stuff. But that’s what Steph does. He likes to be in storybooks,” according to U.S. coach Steve Kerr.
“Before every shot you take, you think it’s going in. All I saw was the rim. I didn’t see who was in front of me. I knew it was kind of a late clock situation, but that one impressed myself,” Curry told reporters after the game, as reported by ESPN.
During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Kevin Durant scored 29 points, which propelled the United States to victory. France went away with a silver medal on both occasions.
It was also the fifth consecutive gold medal for the United States and the 17th in 20 all-time appearances for the Americans at the games, according to the NBA’s official website.
“For me to get a gold medal is insane, and I thank God for the opportunity to experience it,” Curry said.
