DENVER, Colorado—This year at the 10th Western Conservative Summit on July 12-13, the theme was defending America’s religious freedom and First Amendment.
Mandy Newkirk is a junior from Christian Colorado University who is very passionate about pro-life issues.
“Especially as a young woman, my heart goes out to women who are drawn into abortion,” said Newkirk. “It breaks my heart that the lies that these women are hearing—it’s my passion to fight for women, as well as these children.”
Abby Johnson—a pro-life activist and author of the book, “Unplanned,” which has since been made into a movie—was a speaker at this year’s summit, a speaker that Newkirk said doesn’t mince words, something she really likes. The CCU junior got her copy of “Unplanned” signed by the author.
“Abbey was saying in there as well that her opinions, while working for Planned Parenthood, reformed little by little, just a bit at a time, and that’s what is happening here as well,” said Newkirk. Conversely, she said that “women’s opinions on abortion have changed just little by little, and it’s really a slippery slope into dangerous territory.”
