Rafael Bejar, director of outreach at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, is in South Texas where three Latina GOP candidates could win House seats: Mayra Flores, Monica De La Cruz, and Cassy Garcia.
Flores won a special election back in June, becoming the first Mexican-born woman to sit in the House. It was also the first time in well over a century the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) voted red. Two more deep blue seats could follow if De La Cruz and Garcia win too.
Bejar, a former Republican National Committee national director of Hispanic coalitions, explains what’s shifting in the RGV and what these Latinas would likely prioritize once in Washington.
