Actor-singer Jennifer Lopez is divorcing Hollywood actor Ben Affleck just over two years after the former couple married in a lavish ceremony in Georgia, according to court documents.
Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, on Aug. 20 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The “Maid in Manhatten” actress filed for divorce pro per, meaning she did so herself and without an attorney.
Lopez listed the official date of separation as April 26, 2024. The filing does not state whether or not there is a prenuptial agreement in place.
It follows speculation that Lopez and Affleck had separated after the pair—popularly known as “Bennifer”—did not appear publicly together in recent months.
Speculation only increased after the “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” singer canceled her 2024 North American tour last minute in May. She told fans in a statement on her website at the time that she was “heartsick and devastated” at the cancellation but that she felt it was “absolutely necessary.”
“I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again,” Lopez wrote. “I love you all so much. Until next time…”
Neither Lopez nor Affleck have addressed the separation rumors.
It marks the fourth divorce for Lopez and the second divorce for Affleck.
Lopez was briefly married to actor and producer Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998 and to dancer and actor Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003. She married singer-songwriter Marc Anthony in 2004 and the couple divorced a decade later. They share 14-year-old twins.
Lopez was also engaged to former baseball player Alex Rodriguez in 2017, but the couple called off their engagement in 2021.
Affleck, who is the director and star of the Oscar-winning film “Argo,” married actress Jennifer Garner in 2005, with whom he shares three children. They divorced in 2018.
Lopez and Affleck initially dated in 2002 after meeting on the set of their romantic crime comedy movie “Gigli” but their relationship ended in January 2004.
However, the former couple rekindled their romance in 2022—soon after she called off her four-year relationship with Rodriguez—and the souple married in a late-night Las Vegas drive-through chapel in July of that same year.
They tied the knot again in a larger ceremony at Affleck’s home in Georgia on Aug. 20, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.
“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” Lopez wrote on the social media platform Instagram at the time.
She signed off the post as “Jennifer Lynn Affleck.”
