The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency gave an update on the status of the Nolichucky Dam on Saturday. Officials said the dam on the Nolichucky River along the North Carolina border was no longer under a threat to fail. Earlier Saturday, authorities said the river had crested and water was receding. Officials said the water had reached eight feet beyond record levels. Heading into Saturday, a flash flood emergency had been extended due to what was described as an “imminent” dam failure. That prompted an evacuation order for residents in at least one county, with other residents nearby urged to get to higher ground.
