A humpback whale has been rescued after becoming entangled in fishing lines and floats off the coast of British Columbia.

CBC Vancouver reported that a crew of fishery officers was alerted to the trapped animal’s presence in Hecate Strait. The humpback whale was found with multiple lines and floats tangled around its head and body.

The crew spent several days rescuing the animal before it could swim free.

The crew said they believe the whale became entangled by collecting lines and floats for weeks or months before it eventually got trapped.
