A Houston man has been charged with murder for allegedly killing an innocent bystander whilst attempting to run over his domestic partner in a car.

The Houston Police Department identified the man as 35-year-old Sanden James George. George allegedly struck a 41-year-old woman on a sidewalk in Houston on the morning of Aug. 18 in a deadly crash.

Police responded to an incident of a pedestrian being hit by a car in the city’s Midtown area at around 3 a.m., according to Houston homicide detectives.

“HPD patrol officers responded to an auto-pedestrian crash at the intersection near 2300 San Jacinto Street and found a woman had been struck by a motor vehicle. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the woman deceased.,” according to an Aug. 19 news release by the Police Department.

“An initial investigation, evidence from the scene, and witness statements determined a male suspect got into a physical altercation with a woman, 24, before attempting to intentionally strike her with his vehicle. She was not seriously injured. The suspect’s vehicle struck another woman and he fled on foot,” HPD said in the release.

The woman who was killed was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not yet been officially released and is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

George was taken into custody by the responding officers soon after the crash. He was then taken to a local hospital for treatment and later released to police custody.

Further investigation identified the suspect, who was charged and booked into the Harris County Jail.

George was also charged with assault on a family member, in addition to the murder charge, according to the release.
