During her State of the State Address on Tuesday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul claimed a “housing shortage” is to blame for the continued mass population migration out of the Empire State.
“People aren’t necessarily moving for warmer weather or lower taxes,” Hochul said in her speech. She also said a shortage of housing is the cause of high rents and mortgage costs in New York, before announcing a plan for an initiative aimed at increasing the construction of homes in the state.
