Vice President Kamala Harris visited two major swing states on Saturday, touting her “to-do list” upon returning to the White House as she drove her message home in Georgia and North Carolina, just three days before Election Day.
“I do believe it is one of the highest forms of patriotism, of our expression, of our love for our country, to fight for the ideals of our country and to fight to realize the promise of America,” Harris told rallygoers in Charlotte. “Are you ready to make your voices heard?”
After initially running a campaign of “joy” following her abrupt July promotion to Democratic nominee when President Joe Biden stepped aside, Harris’ recent messaging about her legislative agenda has shifted to outlining top priorities for a Harris administration if she beats Trump in the election.
“At the top of my list is bringing down the cost of living for you,” Harris told the Atlanta crowd, adding that she will seek support from Congress to “give a middle class tax cut to over a hundred million Americans,” enact a federal ban on price gouging, and use Medicare to pay the home care costs for people caring for an elderly parent.
Harris also warned that she believes that Trump, if reelected, plans to attack abortion laws, health care access, and go on a revenge tour against his enemies. The former president has pushed back on the accuracy of his opponent’s descriptions of his policies, saying publicly that he does not support a national abortion ban and supports reforms to make health care affordable.
Georgia and North Carolina are positioned to set the tone for what is polling as the closest presidential race in American history. The RealClear Politics polling average Saturday estimates that former President Donald Trump is leading Harris by 2.6 points in the Peach State, and also ahead by 1.7 points in the Tarheel State.
Georgia’s polls will close at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, with North Carolina’s polls closing a half hour later at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The two states will award 16 electoral college votes each.
“You know me. I’m not afraid of tough fights,” Harris told her North Carolina supporters. “In less than 90 days, it’s either gonna be him or me sitting in the Oval Office.”
Team Harris’s events on Saturday featured musical performances that have become routine at her rallies, with popular rapper 2 Chainz hitting the stage in Atlanta and rock legend Jon Bon Jovi singing in Charlotte.
“It is no secret, this is the people’s house,” shouted Bon Jovi, guitar in hand.
The vice president has been stockpiling celebrity endorsements in recent weeks, with NBA star LeBron James, singer Beyoncé, and actress Jennifer Lopez pledging their support in the home stretch.
Harris earned international pop superstar Taylor Swift’s endorsement immediately following her Sept 10. debate with Trump, which was the two candidate’s only meeting ever.
With Election Day approaching Tuesday, both campaigns are expected to travel extensively for the remainder of the time left.
Both vice presidential nominees, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance, spent the day campaigning in the swing states of Arizona and Nevada, while President Biden, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, and former President Bill Clinton hit the ground in Pennsylvania—which will be key to deciding the winner.
Trump held his own rallies in swing state North Carolina, appearing at two events in the state. He also rallied in nearby Virginia, where polling by RealClear Politics has him trailing by nearly 6 percentage points.
