A surgeon in California and a woman believed to be his girlfriend are accused of drugging and assaulting at least two women.
Grant William Robicheaux, 38, and Cerissa Laura Riley, 31, are charged with sexually assaulting two women by using drugs, ABC7 reported. They are accused of drugging women after meeting them at bars before bringing them back to Robicheaux’s apartment and assaulting them.
Prosecutors, however, said that there might be upwards of 1,000 other victims.
Robicheaux and Riley are two “clean-cut, good-looking people,” and they used their looks to “prey” on their victims, Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said.
Robicheaux, who also appeared on the Bravo reality TV show “Online Dating Rituals of the American Male,” was also charged with possession of an assault weapon, KTLA reported.
In April 2016, officials said the pair met a 32-year-old woman at a Newport Beach restaurant and invited her to a boat party, but they took her to Robicheaux’s apartment once she was intoxicated before assaulting her. The victim contacted Newport Beach police and tested positive for several drugs, KTLA reported.
“The defendants are accused of supplying multiple drugs to the victim then raping and orally copulating her while she was prevented from resisting due to intoxicating and controlled substances and they should have reasonably known of her condition,” according to a press release from the Orange County District Attorney’s office.
Another victim who was drunk was taken back to Robicheaux’s apartment, where she was sexually assaulted. The victim woke up, according to officials, and screamed before a police officer responded.
The two victims named in the case were not patients of Robicheaux. However, police are investigating whether he assaulted his patients.
Videos Discovered
Officials discovered hundreds of videos that appear to show more victims. Rackauckas said the women are “highly intoxicated beyond the ability to consent or resist, and they’re barely responsive to the defendant’s sexual advances,” KTLA reported.
“Based on this evidence, we believe that there might be many unidentified victims out there,” Rackauckas said.
Robicheaux and Riley also have traveled to a number of music and art festivals, including Burning Man and the Splash House Festival, according to authorities.
“The defendants may have traveled together to various festivals and locations since 2015 including Burning Man in Black Rock Desert, Nevada, Dirtybird Campout festival in Silverado, Splash House festival in Palm Springs, and landmarks near Page, Arizona,” the district attorney’s office said in a news release.
If convicted, Robicheaux faces 40 years in prison while Riley faces 30 years and eight months, officials added.
“Robicheaux is also accused of possessing two illegal, unregistered assault rifles, four other firearms, and several large capacity magazines,” the release stated, adding that “Robicheaux and Riley are accused of possessing large quantities of illegal drugs which were recovered in Robicheaux’s residence.”
The couple was arrested on Sept. 12 after charges were filed on Sept. 11, according to the district attorney’s office.
Those with information are urged to call Supervising Investigator Eric Wiseman at 714-347-8794, the district attorney’s office said.
