Hundreds of residents in Vijayawada city in India’s southern Andhra Pradesh state have been left stranded after their locality was swamped in flash flooding triggered by heavy rains on Monday.
Torrential downpours in Southern India have seen houses and vehicles in residential areas flooded, while rescue workers from the National Disaster Response Force evacuated locals in inflatable boats.
A cyclone in the Bay of Bengal causing heavy rainfall is expected to weaken, but further thunderstorms are forecast.
