Fireworks are an American tradition to celebrate Independence Day. It’s everyone’s responsibility to enjoy fireworks safely. NTD spoke with James Fuller, fireworks safety expert at the American Pyrotechnics Safety and Education Foundation, to learn about the best practices. Mr. Fuller warned that people often don’t realize fireworks they bought in one city are actually illegal in the city they’re trying to set them off in. When it comes to lighting fireworks, Mr. Fuller says to use a fireplace lighter or a punk, a smoldering stick used for lighting firework fuses. As for tossing fireworks, he says to wait for them to cool, then soak them in water before throwing them away.
