The father of former NFL quarterback Bobby Hebert Jr. died aged 81 on Saturday after testing positive for the CCP virus.
NTD refers to the novel coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, as the CCP virus because the Chinese Communist Party’s coverup and mismanagement allowed the virus to spread throughout China and create a global pandemic.
A statement obtained by WWL from the Bobby Hebert Jr. and the rest of the family said: “Our hearts are broken by the passing of my father, Bobby Hebert Sr. He was a beloved husband of 61 years, devoted father of four, and grandfather to 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.”
The statement described Hebert Sr.’s later years, saying: “He was truly one of a kind with a magic twinkle in his eye. He was loved by everyone who knew him. He never knew a stranger and was the life of any party. His Catholic faith was a pillar of his life and he went out of his way to help anyone in need—if even to make them smile.”
Hebert Jr. described his father as the person who helped him achieve his dreams and said that he owed it to his father that he played professional football.
“Without my father I never would have been able to accomplish my dreams, I never would have made it to NFL. He was the reason I made it. I owe everything to him,” the statement read.
WWL Radio Host Michael Detillier also wrote about Bobby Hebert Sr.’s death on Twitter: “So so sad to hear about the passing away of Bobby Hebert, Sr. this morning. Bobby spoke about his dad’s health battle yesterday. Such a good man in life and a fixture in our part of the world.”
Hebert Jr. revealed to WWL that his father had also suffered from several other conditions, such as a heart defect, colon cancer, and strokes. Hebert Jr. described his father as a fighter.
However, Hebert Jr. said that no matter how tough his father was, “the virus can still overwhelm you.”
Following his father’s positive test for the CCP virus, Hebert Jr. said that his father was fighting through the virus.
“You get numb,” Hebert Jr. said, “and then sometimes you don’t want to accept reality and what you are dealing with.”
