Have you ever bought a tool thinking you don’t have one like it, only to find that you actually do? Or have you ever tripped over something you accidentally left on the floor? If yes, listen up! The KonMari Method of home organizing might be just what you need to put your home in order once and for all. This simple methodology, created by Japanese decluttering guru Marie Kondo, asks homemakers to sort through every individual item they own. You figure out whether or not each one brings you joy, thus determining what to keep and how to store it. Kondo recommends doing this by category, beginning with clothing, then books, paperwork, miscellaneous items and, finally, mementos.

NTD’s Chris Beers wanted to find out what it’s like to actually do this, so he met with film history teacher David Grotell, who tried the KonMari Method with the help of KonMari consultant Hiroko Watanabe.
