In this episode of NTD’s “Profiles of Service,” we sit down with Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas). An Iraq War veteran and West Point graduate, Hunt has a distinguished family legacy of military service, with nearly 60 years of collective service among his immediate family.
Now serving in his “next deployment,” Congress, Hunt shares his experiences of working across the aisle, particularly in passing pro-energy legislation, and reflects on the values that drive him in office. He also talks about balancing his role as a father and congressman and prioritizing returning home every weekend to stay connected with his young family and constituents.
“Profiles of Service” is an NTD News series featuring men and women who have chosen to dedicate themselves to public service. At a time of low trust in the political process—according to a recent Gallup poll, 57 percent of the country has “very little” confidence in Congress—we launched the series as a way to get to know our elected officials on a different level. We ask them about the challenges and rewards of being in office, why public service matters, and what inspiration they can offer the next generation of potential leaders.
