A recent Gallup poll shows Americans’ approval of unions has been rising for the last decade—with 61 percent saying they help the U.S. economy while union membership has been steadily declining.

Mr. Mix says that’s because the differences between union officials and rank-and-file workers are growing wider, particularly when it comes to political positions, like border security, smaller government, lower taxes, and less regulation.
