California’s Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux testified to the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, where he said a proposed reclassification of fentanyl to a Schedule 1 controlled substance would add “a sting in the bite” to the prosecution of those who sneak the deadly substance across the southern border.
Classifying fentanyl as a Schedule 1 drug would officially bundle it with the most dangerous narcotics, and would require more substantial consequences for smuggling it across the U.S.–Mexico border.
