Cleveland Browns running back D’Onta Foreman is out for an unspecified time after injuring his neck during practice on Thursday, team management said.

The running back “sustained a direct blow to the head that resulted in neck pain,” said a statement put out by the team.

The injury occurred during a kickoff drill at the Browns’ training camp at The Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia.

Though Foreman “had movement in all his extremities,” he was immobilized and carted off the field, put in an ambulance, and then flown by helicopter to Carilion Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.

An update later that day confirmed that X-rays and CT scans were negative.

During a Friday press meeting, head coach Kevin Stefanski said Foreman was doing “better.”

He called the situation “very, very scary” and thanked the Browns medical staff for treating Foreman. “They followed protocols and made sure he got great treatment.”

Stefanski said Foreman was now getting “plenty of rest” but did not say when the 28-year-old would return to the team.

“Thank God he’s ok.”

More recent updates have said that Foreman has left the hospital, with AP reporting that he will travel with the Browns back to Ohio on Friday.

Foreman, who is entering his seventh season, signed with the Browns as a free agent in March while the team awaits the return of running back Nick Chubb, who’s working his way back from a season-ending knee injury and two surgeries.

According to the team, Chubb has remained an active leader in the running back room, sharing his insights with the younger players on the roster.

Stefanski further told the press that wide receiver Elijah Moore exited the practice field on Friday and was evaluated for a suspected concussion.
