President Joe Biden will address the nation on Wednesday night from the White House in his first public remarks since announcing he will not seek reelection.

“Tomorrow evening at 8 PM ET, I will address the nation from the Oval Office on what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people,” President Biden wrote in a post on X.

President Biden, 81, will return to the White House Tuesday afternoon from his home in Delaware where he has been recovering from COVID-19.

As pressure mounted from top democrats to step aside, President Biden announced Sunday in a letter that he would not accept the Democratic nomination.

“While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” President Biden wrote.

He referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as an “extraordinary partner” and said in a later post that he would support her as his replacement.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump,” President Biden stated on X.

Ms. Harris quickly garnered the backing of Democrats and secured the support of enough delegates to become the likely Democratic nominee.
