China is denying the existence of illicit fentanyl shipments to Mexico—and with it, its ties to America’s fentanyl crisis.
The United States says fentanyl precursors from China are processed into the drug in Mexico and that most of the fentanyl in the United States travels through the southern border from Mexico.
On Thursday, Beijing’s foreign ministry spokesperson said no illegal fentanyl trafficking happens between China and Mexico. Instead, she blamed the United States for the fentanyl crisis, describing it as made in the USA.
Drug overdoses cause tens of thousands of U.S. deaths a year.
