Hurricane Milton is passing over Florida’s east coast, but flash floods and storm surges continue to threaten the area. The storm made landfall near Siesta Key as a dangerous Category 3 hurricane, before later weakening to a Category 1 storm.
Milton has left a trail of destruction across Florida. Saint Petersburg received about 16 inches of rain—an extremely rare occurrence for the region. At least 27 tornadoes were reported across the state on Wednesday, adding to the devastation. Tragically, multiple deaths have been reported in Saint Lucie County. Hurricane Milton also tore the roof off Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays.
