Two women and their driver have been found dead after their Jeep fell over a cliff in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, according to a report.
Diana Robles, 28, Ofelia Figueroa-Perez, 60, and hired driver Don Fehd, 72, were all found dead 240 feet below the edge of Ouray County Road 361, where their vehicle went off the road, according to the Montrose Daily Press. The deadly incident took place on Sept. 12.
Robles and her aunt Figueroa-Perez were sightseeing in the area, and Fehd was a driver working for Colorado West Jeep Rentals and Tours.
Their vehicle fell 100 feet to the bottom of a cliff, and then rolled about 140 feet to the banks of Canyon Creek.
Fehd’s body was found outside the vehicle, while the two women’s bodies were found inside the vehicle. The car was on its roof, police said.
Both Robles and Figueroa were nurses; Robles was working at Yuma Regional Hospital, according to the Montrose Daily Press.
Ouray County Road 361, where the incident took place, is also known as Camp Bird Road, which can be steep and narrow. The road is close to Imogene Pass, which is popular with hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Robles allegedly took a photo of the Pass before the fatal incident, The Drive reported.
The Colorado State Patrol responded to a report of a crash at 12:32 p.m. and found a white Jeep hundreds of feet down from the road, according to The Drive.
The official cause of death for all three is pending autopsy, the Montrose Daily Press reports.
“We know they are in the merciful hands of our Lord as they themselves being nurses had healing hands in every life they touched,” Diana Figueroa, a family member of the two women, wrote on Facebook.
Monday’s incident was the second deadly occurrence in the area in one week. A man was found dead and his wife injured when their ATV vehicle fell off the road near Imogene Pass on Sept. 5, according to The New York Post.
