Three adults and 56 dogs survived an emergency landing of their light plane on a golf course in Wisconsin on Tuesday, according to local officials.

The passengers on the turbo-prop plane, that went down at Western Lakes Golf Club in the Waukesha County community of Pewaukee, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The 56 dogs, that were also onboard, were being transported from New Orleans, Louisiana to shelters in Wisconsin.

Humane society employees were waiting for their arrival at Waukesha Airport but then went to the golf course to retrieve the animals after hearing about the plane’s emergency landing.

Officials said the dogs were not seriously injured.

They also said the plane struck trees after it crash landed and lost its wings.

About 300 gallons of fuel was spilled.

It was immediately unclear what triggered the emergency landing.
