The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health is calling for England and Northern Ireland to ban the smacking of children. It would follow Scotland and Wales, where striking a child is illegal. Pediatricians say the current law in England and Northern Ireland is dangerously vague. Alistair Thompson from the Be Reasonable campaign told NTD the current law is clear, and there’s no need to introduce a ban.
