Shen Yun Performing Arts is bringing its second performance to Austin, Texas, and debuting in Italy on Dec. 27. Taking the audience on a journey through 5,000 years of divine culture—a civilization that thrived long before communism.
“A very delicate, noble, and culturally rich Chinese civilization,” said Emanuela Giuliani, a dentist. “The Chinese movements, all their culture, and especially how they portrayed their entire heritage before communism—it’s simply beautiful. And the music … it was all so delightful!”
“The spiritual aspect is very inspiring, and the spiritual beliefs that are being expressed are actually similar to ours. So it’s really nice to feel a connection with people from a very different culture,” said Eric Antokoletz, a writer.
Since 2006, Shen Yun has been touring worldwide with a mission to revive authentic Chinese culture through classical Chinese dance and music. Theatergoers praised the performance and noted its profound underlying message.
“The message that the time we are in is a very special time. Something different is happening now on the earth that has been happening for many thousands of years, it’s different now. It’s inspiring to see that people know about that and that they are telling this message to everyone,” said Antokoletz.
Shen Yun’s performance brought graphic designer Sara Cunsolo to tears.
“I just finished crying. It moved me so much. The message is one of peace, especially in such a challenging historical moment. It gave a sense of calm and courage, showing that it’s possible to return to a state of serenity. To have a peaceful community across the whole world—what a thought,” she said.
“I received a message of hope from this performance. Regardless of one’s personal stance, inclinations, or beliefs, there is a sense of positivity conveyed through the dance—a feeling that everything is divine,” said Simona Fortini, a university researcher.
