‘Fantastic’ and ‘Phenomenal’: Portland Audience Dazzled by Shen Yun

March 28, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts successfully closed the curtain on 5 performances at the Keller Auditorium in Portland, Oregon, from March 14 to March 17. Audience members said they were amazed—and deeply moved—by Shen Yun’s artistry.

“The dancing was fantastic, it was phenomenal. I was really moved by the storytelling, and the orchestra was perfection. It was amazing start to finish. It was worth every moment,” said James Rhodes, formerly in law enforcement.

Paul Lyman, president of High Country Contractors and Developers, was very impressed with Shen Yun’s 3D backdrop.

“I liked how they embraced the technology and brought that into the program. It was very seamless and the transitions were great. It really helped the story, it was very good.”

“I think the dancers are so beautiful, and definitely, you could feel the energy of them,” said Patty Thorstenson, an insurance agent at American National.

Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values from before communism—a culture believed to be inspired by the Divine. Theatergoers told us they believe that the same traditional values Shen Yun showcases are still important for society today.

“In the modern world, a lot of us chase success and money. And we forget about our peace and values. So it’s a good reminder,” said Elad Nadler, the senior director of service at ACM Research.

“Shen Yun in and of itself is divine, peace, kindness. And they’re trying to basically share that with the world, without all of the violence. And that’s what I got,” said Linda Crumb, a realtor at Windermere Realty Group, LLC.

“We’re all busy with our lives, technology, and everything. Take a step back and think about peacefulness like helping each other out,” said Prudhvi ram Peri, an engineer at Intel Corporation. “That’s pretty wonderful, that’s the message I got from that.”

Others described Shen Yun’s performance as inspiring.

“I love their mission, I support their mission. I was unaware of it, but this is a great way to showcase that and I learned a lot tonight. I was inspired by it. It’s inspirational,” said Mr. Rhodes.

“You’ve inspired me and you touched my heart. And I just want to applaud all your time and efforts, thank you for everything,” said Robby Mayer, a musician.

“Today’s performance was life invigorating, I call it life saving,” said Ken Evans, a database engineer for the State of Oregon.

“It gives me a lot of insight about all the richness of the Chinese culture. And I really want to spread the word to everybody, just to come see it,” said Dan Iparraguirre, a signal integrity engineer at Intel Corporation.

Shen Yun will perform at The Buell Theatre in Denver, Colorado, from March 29 through April 3.
